2011 SHOP STEWARD SEMINAR - Sept. 24, 2011

Shop Steward/Member Training was held at the Teamster Building in Tukwila and the training room was filled to capacity. Secretary-Treasurer David Grage opened the session with a report on current economic situations and trends we are seeing throughout the Local. This year, the ever popular Sally Payne, IBT Associate Director of Training and Development, was joined by Martin Costello, Esquire, and Counsel to the IBT General Secretary-Treasurer. The program covered the following: 

• Do’s and Don’ts of Grievance Handling and Arbitration
• Theory of the Case – developing a theory for each situation
• You be the Arbitrator – Stewards render decisions based on true cases

The training consisted of a power point presentation, group break out, problem solving activities and de-briefings on the problem solving exercises. A great lunch was catered followed by door prizes, closing remarks and evaluations. Judging by the comments received, everyone in attendance had a very positive experience and learned a lot. We would encourage you to join us at the next training seminar.
