Welcome New Business Agent Scott Sullivan

Scott started as a Teamster in 1976. He worked at various jobs out of the hiring hall until 1977 where he went to work for Taylor-Edwards, a local cartage company in Seattle, WA. He was elected shop steward. On January 24th, 1980, went on strike at Taylor-Edwards. That strike lasted until January 28th, 1981. Fifty-seven men went on strike and not one crossed the picket line!

In 1980, Scott went to work at the Port of Seattle. He was elected Shop Steward and served on 7 contract negotiation teams. He also served as an elected delegate to three Teamster Conventions.

In November of 2000, Scott was elected as Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local Union No. 174. He was appointed as a Trustee to the Washington Teamster Welfare Trust in 2001.

In January, 2004 Scott took a job working for Teamsters Joint Council #28 as Director of Organizing & Political Activities. He served in that job until December, 2006 and returned to the Port of Seattle until July, 2008, when he accepted the position of Business Agent at Teamsters Local No. 763.

Shop Steward Training Workshop 9/27/2008

Local 763 will be conducting Shop Steward Training Workshop on Saturday, September 27th, 2008. The topic for this seminar is "Effective Handling of Conflict in the Workplace". The workshop will be held at the Teamsters Building located at 14675 Interurban Ave S. in Tukwila. This training is part of a continuing series of workshops that we have planned. The instructors are made up from guest speakers, 763 staff members and representatives from the various departments of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT).

The training is open to all Shop Stewards, any member who would like to become a Shop Steward or any member that would just like to learn more about our Teamsters Union and shop floor representation. There are a great many topics and laws that will be discussed in these sessions. Topics such as labor and contractual law, the negotiating process, the grievance and arbitration process, history, current trends, medical issues, and many more subjects will be presented at these sessions.

If you are planning to attend this workshop, please contact Linda Baker at (206) 441-0763 or email to l.baker@teamsters763.org so that we can plan accordingly. Registration will be at 8:30AM and the workshop will end at 3:30PM. Will will be providing snacks, beverages and lunch.

The Seattle Times - 7/16/08
On July 10th, 2008, The Seattle Times mechanics voted to accept an extension agreement which included wage increases, improvement to their sick leave language and protection for an on the job injury. Emmitt Jackson, through his leadership, was instrumental in the development of this agreement.

Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" 6/21/2008


Members of the Joint Council of Teamsters No. 28 Women's Caucus and their friends and family met on June 21, in Seattle, to participate in the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure".

The Women's Caucus would like to thank everyone who walked, slept-for-the-cure or made a pledge for this very worthy cause.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation uses 75% of the net proceeds to fund education and early detection programs while 25% will be invested by National Komen on groundbreaking breast cancer research.

The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund
The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund is please to announce the 2008 Essay Contest. The contest will commence July 1st, 2008, with a deadline date of September 30th, 2008.

In November 1999, the General Executive Board passed a resolution to create an independent, not-for-profit scholarship fund dedicated to the memory of the revered former General President, James R. Hoffa. Since it's creation, The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund has helped hundreds of Teamster children and grandchildren finance their education. The total amount awarded to students last year was $400,000.

Keep your dues current. Dues need to be posted on the last day of the month or will be considered delinquent. Also, we need to be notified of any change of mailing address by calling 206-441-0763. Employers typically don’t pass that information on to us. If you leave employment, contact the Local to request a withdrawal card.
