Local 763 Members Fighting Back - 03/19/08

The conventional wisdom on the street is that public sector employees have to accept the employer’s last offer in contract negotiation because the labor laws are so in favor the governmental employers. We are very proud to report that our sisters and brothers at the City of Bellevue Planning and Community Development Department don’t agree with that thinking and are fighting back in their struggle to get an equitable contract. These members have been in negotiations since 2006. In their fight for respect, they have been staging informational pickets around City Hall since February 26, 2008 at lunchtime and after work from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. The crowds keep getting bigger for their lunchtime rallies. On March 13th over 300 supporters from the Building Trades showed up at City Hall to march with them. This action and show of support so rattled the City that the next day the Police were talking of arresting supporters at future rallies. Come join us for a lunchtime march around City Hall with members of Local 763 who are fighting back and exercising their constitutional rights.
