We have counted the votes in our contract ratification and the result is an overwhelming REJECTION of the proposal from AMR:
The vote totals are as follows:
No to Reject: 310 votes.
Yes to Approve: 46 votes.
Rejection of the contract has authorized the bargaining team to call a strike. Before a strike can occur, the Local must first follow a process to ensure any work stoppage is sanctioned by the appropriate union and local authorities.
Teamsters Local 763 will reach out to Federal Mediator Tom Melancon, who has been a member of our negotiation process since June, to inform him of the result. We also will contact your employer to schedule a meeting date(s) to discuss this rejection and try to negotiate a solution.
We also will start the process of applying to Joint Council of Teamsters No. 28 and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for strike sanction. Without sanction by these bodies, a strike action would be classified as a “wildcat strike” and no members would be eligible for strike benefits or support from other Teamster Locals and in many cases, other labor organizations. We also will seek strike sanction from the Labor Councils in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties, since we may be erecting picket lines at AMR stations in all three counties.
Thanks to all who voted, thanks for being Teamsters and thank you for the work you do to care for our shared community.
TEAMSTERS LOCAL UNION NO. 763
