Support Striking Workers
Pass ESSB 5041!
Over the years, Teamsters across Washington have been forced into strikes. We have an opportunity to help level the playing field for private sector workers who assert their collective POWER to strike.
Access to unemployment insurance could ease some of the economic hardship those workers feel while on strike. It would also pressure employers to bargain in good faith, abide by federal labor law, and think twice before pushing workers to the brink of a labor dispute.
A bill before the State Legislature (ESSB 5041) with a Committee Hearing on March 18th would give workers access to unemployment insurance benefits if they are out on strike for more than two weeks. This will help level the playing field in contract negotiations and discourage employers from threatening workers with economic hardship as a bargaining strategy.
Tell your legislators to PASS ESSB 5041 – Unemployment benefits for striking workers. The bill has already passed the Senate and needs your active support to complete the legislative process. We need you to take action before March 18th to get this bill out of committee.
