January 30, 2020 - Teamsters business agent Mary Keefe and AMR EMT steward, Timia Olsen testified at the WA Senate Committee on Health & Long Term Care hearing in support of the Quality Assurance Fee (QAF) bill. The QAF is designed to increase reimbursement rates for private ambulance companies for Medicaid transport patients. Companies like AMR and Falck are required to transport patients regardless of their form of payment. Our emergency medical member workers provide the same high level of care and transport service regardless of their form of payment. While cost of living, medical supplies and employment costs continue to rise, the Medicaid reimbursement rate has stayed the same for almost 15 years. The QAF is a creative solution to increase Medicaid reimbursement from the Federal government. The QAF will help to ensure that companies like AMR will be in a strong position to bargain living wages during future contract negotiations.
